BYU Women's Conference 2009

I just returned from Women's Conference last night. I am so appreciative of the all the time and effort that is put into the preparations by the committee so that the rest of us can have such a great experience. I am always so inspired and feel such a spiritual uplift in attending. I love how one of the speakers told us that now that we have filled our spiritual buckets we need to go home and splash it on all of our loved ones and friends. Hopefully I will be able to keep this feeling of peace and happiness in my every day life. I feel like I have been in the MTC again for the last three days! This year Karen (Mim) was my roommate. I love her and she is like another sister to me. Holly Allred, Kristin Smoot, Carol Monson, Julie Peterson, Lynnette Williams and her mom also went from our ward. I also ran into many other friends from previous wards. L. Tom Perry was our closing speaker and gave a fabulous talk about the sisters' role in missionary work and how to close the gap between what we know about our church and how the world views our church.

Karen and I listened to three conference sessions while making these cute little felt Christmas stockings in the service learning rooms. The stockings will go to Primary Children's Hospital and shelters for neglected and abused children. On Thursday evening after the closing session, Holly, Karen and I went to the Smith field house and helped put together children's school bags going to Arab speaking countries. Other women were putting together hygiene kits and newborn layettes. It is so neat to see thousands of women working together to accomplish so much for humanitarian services and I'm amazed at how much gets done. Later we went to the concert at the Marriot Center where we heard, Jenny Oaks Baker (so amazing), Hilary Weeks (one of my faves) and other LDS music artists.

This is the brand new Hinkley alumni building, named after President Gordon B. Hinkley on the BYU campus. It is beautiful and very European looking in honor of him serving his mission in England.
